if someone was to, say, rip their heatshield (assume thats what it is, the cloth type stuff on the underside of the hood) would it do any damage to anything? I noticed the tubes for the washer fluid stuff going to the sprayers on the hood. Could they melt or anything now, cause the heat shield isn't there?

I don't even have that heat shield thingy on my 92 LE V6...so it should be okay. I think it's more for sound-proofing, or an engine cozy to keep it warm? Maybe in the winter? I dunno, but when it rains and I've been driving for awhile, my hood is usually steaming....

Yeah you should be fine. My gen 2 does not have one and the windshield fluid tubes are exposed and just fine.

It's for sound proofing and also keeps the top of the hood from becoming too hot. When I had mine off, I had some very nice hot spots on the hood that could cook an egg.
