It's been 2 years now... whenever I steer, "screak, scrak" noise occurs. (tried my best to simulate the sound) It's pretty annoying! Anyone know how to get rid of it?? Btw, it's a 97' Camry V6 XLE
Theres two probable causes that I know of. First is it is coming from the steering coulmn and it might need servicing. Or it could be the front strut mount bushings. Have you had your struts and mounts changed yet? If not then when and if you do make sure to replace the bearing as well as the mounts. It could be something else too these are just two possible solutions.
I have the same problem in my 2002 Camry. Does it sound like a crinkling of a candy wrapper like the kind that Jolly Ranchers come in? If so, that is exactly what I am experiencing, but it hasn't bothered me to the point where I wanted to do anything about it. I just turn my cd player up.

My gf's dad has a 2002 camry le and I've noticed that when I turn the steering wheel it also squeals and makes sounds. I'm not sure if there were any vibrations but it is really weird so I'm planning to take it to the dealer tomorrow to have them check what's wrong with it.
Mine sounds more like wet rubber rubebr against a tile floor. a "rubber" kinda squeak.
Still pending to do under teh dash to see if the rotating column is touching ne thing.
but the sound is comming from where teh actual steering wheel meets with the column. I looked back there, and nothing is touching, its freely rotating...
edit: and its no dependent on weather, cold winters or hot summers, same thing. Also, its not loud, only noticable when u turn off the radio.
Well today I went to the dealer and they told me that I can actually just fix it myself by lubricating between the intermediate shaft and grommet. This is found underneath the steering column you'll see a rubber boot close to the firewall. That boot is most likely in need of some grease to minimize the sound. Silicone spray should also work. I'm not sure if this will actually fix the groaning and whining sounds but I'll give it a try tomorrow.

I lost this thread and just found it. So where is it? Can I spray some WD-40?
