Air Intake Tube Question

There is a hose that comes off the air intake tube and goes to somepart on the rear of the manifold. What is it? And is it neccessary?



My intake tube is starting to crack and needs replacing. I have some 5" flexi pipe that I can use, but i'm not too keen on cutting a hole and putting a fitting on it.

That BIG round hole you see is the manifold. It's where the intake tube connects to. That smaller tube i circled connects to the intake tube.

Cool

It's the air bypass line. (IAC line)

When your throttle plate snaps shut, obviously air has no way of entering the engine.


Air bypasses the throttlebody and goes in the upper intake from that hose. Which, actually has an electronic gaget that acts like another throttle body, and controls the idle mixture and what not. Which is the IAC valve.

It can. You can test the resistance to check it's function, and if you're not afraid of spilling the fuel that routes to it you can take it out and clean it too.


It will be black caked with exhaust, and gold colored from the oil/fuel baked on it when it should be silver. Like this:



That is the cold start injector on a 3vz-fe v6, but that is for demonstration purposes only. LoL!

Well..back to my original question...is it required? What happens if i dnt connect it, or take the hose out and block it off?

if you block it then obiously as stated b4 the engine cant breathe if ya throttle isnt open.. so like.. its kinda required...

125 front wheel horsepower with major retard issues between 4500-5200RPM -
OD switched off, even when not in 3rd results in major power loss/rpm drop.

But seriously, the only experiance I have with those motors is the '93 corolla I had years back, and it always ran like a jewel. Even after being totaled.

No need to apologize. At least I pointed them to a possible culprit. That's the dealer's job to fix their own car.



EDIT: I actually read about it too once but it was a different make so I figured it might not be the same. But seeing that it could be, I linked the two posts in hopes that something can be done.
