Exterior Door Handle Replacement Question

So, if you saw my Happy Fucking New Year's thread (member's only) in OT, you know my ride was broken into and the driverside doorhandle completely destroyed. I have two repair estimates, from a Yota bodyshop ($1200) and the insurance comp ($1000), both of which require me to pay $500 for deductible. I'm thinking of just buying the parts myself and installing, or going towards Autoloc power lock kit and shaved door handles (if economically feasible).

The parts listed for replacement wouldn't cost more than $150 using the insurance estimate parts list (weatherstrip clips, moulding clips, black door handle, locking cylinder and key, and a Tape stripe (dunno what that is - i don't see it in the haynes), but is it worth it for me to try to replace it, since the metal piece the lock goes in is bent and probably needs to be re-welded? I'd rather keep $350 of the $500 if possible, then I could change insurance back to a company that covers theft of personal objects out of a car, unlike mine, which basically told me to Fuck myself for the tools I lost. Thanx for the advice peeps

As far as damage (see pics below), the metal piece the lock actually goes into is bent, but the lock is in it still.

Lightbulb

What would a junk yard door cost you Maybe you could find one that is similar in age and color and just replace the whole door. Looks like you'll need body work too...just an idea

Multiple birds...one stone
