Lots of questions about my E153 Transmission (No 56K Plz)

Got some pics and lots of questions about my new E153, destined for my 2VZFE.
I'm sorry for all of these questions, but id really like to learn about this transmission, as this is the first 'transaxle' i have looked at out of a car!

Firstly some far shots of the beautiful transmission.




And now for some pics of parts that i don't know exactly what they are.


In this pic...there are two electrical connections labelled one and two.
What are they? (I assume one has to be the reverse light output)




In this pic..i've seen on Ratko's E153, two pieces that run btw the two forks and that black bracket..what is it that i'm missing...shifter linkage part? Because mine is a VZV21..i was thinking of using the SV21 shifter linkages..will they have these parts with the SV21 trans..or should i go back to the place and source them from the 3VZ Camry that the trans came from? What are they called?




This part looks to be a slave cylinder for the clutch. Am i right? And how is it connected to the other device (In the next pic) and how do i connect the lines that are coming out of it?




The other part of the clutch system i think..correct? What does this part do..and again how is it's connected used?




What is this part? It's like a cap almost..but i dont know what it is!


Thankyou for your patience with these questions. You've probly heard them all before..but I really appreciate any help you can give. Searching turned up some pics and swapping ideas and procedures..but nothing that really outlined specicily what these parts are. Good explanations would be fantastic!

As far as the mount..i measured the rear one and that looks like it will need a custom one. The front side mount looks like it might bolt up to the VZV21 chassis. The rear side one, i havn't seen yet. There is also a bracket on the bottom of the trrans..does this bolt up to the chassis/cross member?

Picture number 6 with the bluish cylinder and rubber boot is the slave cylinder. The thing it's connected to (pic 5) looks like some sort of adapter or something that runs the line to the flexible hose then to the clutch master cylinder.

I think i worked out what that black electrical connector is..it's the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) isnt it? Which means..i have a problem...i'm sure (but not completely sure) than my car uses a cable for speed sensing..correct? So how can I overcome this problem? Anyway to mod it? Or is aftermarket Speedo the only way, or does my car have an electronic speedo?

Nice tranny. Looks familiar
Gray connector is reverse.
Black is VSS, correct. I think you should be able to take that out and stick your cable in the hole
Your shift cables should match up OK. The ones from a 3VZ Camry should work if not. You might have to change your shifter base with the cables.
The other pictures: Accumulator, slave cylinder, and vent, respectively.

yes the bracet on the bottem bolts up to the cross member

and the the white one is also a speed sensor it's used by the ecu.

second pic, you need the 2 shifter cables that come from the shifter assembly inside the car.

3rd pic is just a proportioning block that you can use to bleed the clutch lines, nothing more.

4th pic is the slave cylinder itself.

5th pic, i believe its just a loose cap that lets out gases/heat/whatever from inside the tranny. thats the only logical thing i could think of since its not removable. either way i wouldnt waste time thinking about what its for.

and yes, the bracket you see on the bottom of it is the transmission mount which goes to the crossmember.

Thanx guys...clears up a few things.
How can I find out about the connections of the clutch (like the slave and propotioning block)? How they are connected up.
Second..i.the VSS...is there a way of cnverting that to my cable system (i think mine is a cable)? Or is an aftermarket speedo required? I can't just pull the plug out and stick the cable in there can I like Mobes said
Anyways..tranny is in great shape..fully reconditioned. Im just going to clean up a few parts with some paint..and should be ready to go.
This is the parts list that I can think of right now that I will need:

1. Shifter cables and base from 3VZ. *Will 3SFE Manual Gen 2 Cables and Base work with that tranny?
2. Clutch/Master Cylinder and Brake Pedal Assembly from Gen 2 4 Cyl.
3. Custom Lines routed from clutch pedal to transmission.
4. Custom Rear Transmission Mount (Possibly the others..but they look close)
5. Fidanza Lightned Flywheel for 2VZFE. (I assume comes with mounting hardware)
6. SPEC Stage II Clutch Kit for 2VZFE. (I assume comes with mounting hardware)
7. Electrical Connections (OEM Toyota) for the Reverse Connector.
8. VSS Output....not yet decided! (Possiblw another connector and new speedo!! doh!)
9. Some misc other bolts, screws, brackets to finish off the job!
10. That resistor box that Ratko made for his swap..I assume mine will be the same?

Can you see any problems with the above setup?

You can use the clutch/flywheel from a 1MZ. You can also use a 3S-GTE clutch but not flywheel since the bolt pattern is different.

You should be able to use the gen 2 cables, you might need to shim under the clips though since the 4 cyl. tranny has cast aluminum cable brackets that are thicker.

For the speed sensor, check into the 3SFE manual setup, you might be able to use it.

The resistor box will be the same assuming you have ECT on your auto, if not, you don't need one.

Oh, and the clutch/flywheel don't generally come with bolts, you'll need to order those from Toyota.

Also, the VSS won't just pull out, you'll need to remove the bolt. But the drive for that should be the same as one one on your speedo cable. If not try the 3S-FE manual cable.

Is there any more info on this VSS problem? Like how to remove it properly?
What exactly is this VSS and how does it work? How can I just pull it out.. and plug in my cable?
Secondly..axles..which ones should I be using? I assume the ones I have now probly won't work..seeing as tho there from my auto trans.

The bolt next to the VSS should come out, then just pull on the VSS. It's just a magnetic sensor that pulses with the rotation of the gearbox. It has a little gear on the end like your speedo cable.



The part labled 83770 should plug in where the VSS is now.

And how about an LSD for the box. What sorta LSD's are avail for this box and how would it be installed? Where is the diff located on this transaxle and how do i get to it.
(This is the first FWD Tranny ive taken apart so..plz bare with me!)

I believe Kazz, Cusco, and Quaife make diffs for a E153.

Where is the diff located on this transaxle and how do i get to it.

The diff is on the backside of the tranny where the axles connect to.

Theres a cover that you can unbolt to get to the diff.

Not sure on the axles, I know from experience the my gen 3 auto ones didn't work for my e153 (not safely anyway, they engage but not fully). I'd say look into the axles that would have come in the car if it had the E52 to begin with (the gen2 V6 tranny).

Problem with the E52..is that we didnt get them here! Otherwise i'd just put the E52 in!. I need something that will fit from here in Aus..possibly 3vz axles..or hybrid 2vz auto/3vz manual axles or something.
