My favorite car has always been the Mustang. I always dreamed of having a 69' Ford Mustang Mach 1 GT.. but that will never happen. Recently my father bought a used 98 mustang convert. and i also was given my mother's 96 Camry LE as a result of my father getting this mustang they no longer needed the camry. Everything in the camry is stock, but regardless i like the ride. Compared to the Mustang i am now finding I am leaning towards favoring the Camry. It has allot more leg room which i like since i am so tall, and i don't really need that much power since i don't race, i am a daily driver. I still ride the Mustang every so often since it is a vert, but I am falling in love with the Luxury car. Also thinking about fixing it up with a body kit, wing, new soundsystem, and maybe try to give it more power for the hell of it. Why not have some fun with it. The question i had was do you guys think i should install a turbocharger in the 4 cyl. or do a engine swap with the 3S-GTE. Since i am not a mechanic i will have a proffessional do either of them either way. but is it more worth it to go with the turbo or should i go all out and do the swap?... can you all give me some pros and cons?

welcome! i'm sure you'll fall in love with your camry just like me! (i know, cheese, give me a break). It all depends on the money you want to spend. If you have around 5 grand to do a 3S-GTE swap, go for it. DOin just a straight turbo on your 5S-FE will give you around 200 horses to deal with (or so i think, correct me if i'm wrong.) Again, its all money, around $1700 or so for the turbo, or $5000 for the swap. But of course the swap will give you more, cause you paid more :smile:
man... hard decision.. should i do the turbo soon and have near imediate results?.. or should i hold off and do the swap after i get the money?.. hehe.. tough choice.. if i do the turbo now and decide to do the swap anyway.. then the turbo would be for nothing.... actually i think i will hold off for now.. not like i will do any major racing anyway.. no one in my area to race or meet up with anyhow... not that i noticed anyway.. think i will have to do my soundsystem first anyway tho... rear speakers are not sounding too good after 6 years of hurting them.. they are still the factory speakers. any suggestions for an afordable 6x9?
i don't do much audio stuff....but you should talk to tmanana (or something like that, ) He is an audio god. If you do the turbo now, be expecting to have to rebuild your engine, cause everyone that has done a turbo on that engine, and made it not so happy.....
my car has 100,000 miles on it. If i were to put a turbo in now, do you think i could get to 200,000 without having to rebuiding my engine?(5s-fe)Or any other major repairs do to the turbo?

I have a 94 camry (could you tell by my name?!) with 206,000 km's. Right now im totally 100% naturally aspirated (no turbo or s/c). I can tell you this, I've literally replaced NOTHING on it. Ok, power steering pump, and thats it. 8 years old 200km (and Im not always a "nice" driver on it) and that baby has held up.
turbo= rebuiuld
s/c= rebuild
n/a= 500km of fine toyota quality

the ho's on North Ave., here in Chicago, will tell you... just because you paid more, doesn't mean you'll ALWAYS get more... sometimes, you just get less for longer...
good points... maybe i shall keep it naturally aspirated.. don't have funds to facilitate a rebuild now or anytime soon or in the far future. just makes me sick that whenever i feel like pushing it to the max once it reaches 100 mph the accleration rate dramatically slows down. i have heard of people with stock engines getting up to 115 and higher but i literally need and extra 5 miles of straight road and no traffic or cops to get it up there.. if it wil even go that far... i need more acceleration.. lol.. i am power hungry..

Welcome!
Good to see another Mustang fan!!
and yes.. thank you.. too bad it is my father's mustang and not mine.. that would be another car i would like to mess with... good thing with mustangs is there is virtually every mod you can think of for it... unlike the camry.. hahaha.. hopefully that will change though...
