Gas Gauge Problem

Put $20 in my tank tonight. I drove about 10 miles back to my house, and when I pulled up I noticed that the gas gauge had gone down a 1/4 tank. As I watched, it kept going down slowly until it went waay below E. Further than I have ever seen. I got out and expected gas to pouring out somewhere. Nothing, not even the smell of gas. I got back in and pulled in my driveway and notice that it moved. So I drove around the block and it slowly went back up to almost where it was. I am boggled. I thought maybe the floater arm broke, but since it went back up that must not be the problem. I have absolutely no idea here...

If anyone has any idea please help.
thanks
-B

I know when I really take off in my car too much, my gas dissapears quick thing. Also if theirs nay kind of load on the engine I notice my gas goes down quickly too. Well actually it could be the needle too because sometimes I notice the needle would goo way down and by the time I park and come back a few mins. later the needle is back to where it was originally before it went down.

The gauge didnt just go down a little... It went down to waay far below E. Like it wasnt hooked up.

When its not snowing up here in beautiful NY, I am going to go out and check the sending unit and clean it. See if that solves it.

But before I do that, I am going to wait and see if it happens again... LoL.

Mine does it sometimes, not as fast as yours but if I am driving for a while it goes down, and then after I let my car sit overnight the guage goes back up somewhat. i think it is just how the Camry gas guage is.
