Just installed a RS Akimoto Intake on my Solara SLE.
It was fine for the first half hour but then on my way home, I pressed the throttle a bit and the car started jerking. Then, the check engine light and traction control off light came on together.
Now the car pants heavily. What that means is the RPM varies very slightly (about 50 rpms) at idle.
Someone had posted how they solved this a while ago, but I cant find where I saved it.
I made my own CAI for my Gen 3 Camry, I have been dricing it around for 2 days... .I've pushed it very hard in those two days, and I have not had any problems BUT my check engine light is on... I am still looking for help on this and if I do find any, I'll be sure to send it your way too.

I removed the negative battery terminal and the light disappeared, but the car idles rough(rises and falls 50 RPM) and feels low on power.
I dont know what to do!
Is your intake a true CAI (pulling cold air in) or is it just a cone filter or a short ram one under the hood? If that's the case, it's probably choking because it's sucking very warm.. well.. hot air in. I know at least on my older camry, the airbox had a small vent that sucked air from the front of the engine bay next to the grille... and adding a cone filter that just sucked from the engine bay killed my low-end.
Its a Short Ram. I doubt it is choking cause I had an RMM before it and it didnt give me any problems.
I am only concerned about the rough change in idle. That is what I can't understand!!
The check engine light hasnt come back since I reset it with the battery. that was 5 miles ago.
Well, you reset your ECU so it has to relearn your driving habits...it'll drive rough for a few days, maybe a week and then it should be okay.
That's why some people reset their ECU after putting in mods...so their car can adjust to them. I did it after installing my catback and CAI...not sure if it's necessary for such minor mods, but hey, it's worth a try.
During those few days of driving rough, will it hurt the car?
I ask because it just feels so coarse!! The engine just doesnt feel like it should- smoth as silk!
For about an hour of driving time, the car suddenly returned to normal again. No more rough idle, more more power loss. I finally saw a smile on my face in the rear view mirror. Then, I turned the AC on and I didn't feel any difference, but noticed the Check Engine light came on AGAIN!!
Check engine for a vacum leak. You might have forgot to connect a hose when you were installing the intake. My buddy with a h22a had the same problem, but it was a lot worse. I mean like 1st gear choking crazy style. But we found out that it was just a disconnected tube which was causing a vacum leak. So look around, make sure u got everything connected.
Oh yeah btw, can anyone help out with the "check engine light" problem with some V6s with intakes? I don't really notice the difference from the check engine light being on and off. It is annoying though. The MAF is connected, for sure, otherwise the motor wouldn't run. Iono, someone tell me something. These past topics aren't really helpful. Thanks!

In my opinion, if you drive a Camry or an Avalon... You are restricted from having an all performance ride. These cars were meant to be luxurious, and they're heavy. So you might as well mod it out with style and "booty points" in mind.
Short ram = cheaper, and you open the engine volume, dont waste your money on cold air. Yeah?
