Question E153 VS 3SFE-Trans gear ratios

Does anyone have the numbres? Why are people opting to install an E153 transmission?

they use that tranny cause it can handle more power... and they usually use it when they get an engine swap... since the L140 tranny that comes with the 3sfe would blow up if you run more than 150hp through it.

edit: Really? So one couldn't safely use the stock tranny with a 3SGTE swap, eh? Thanks for the heads up bro!

hate to tell you this dude, but you aint pushin the 140hp. figure a brand new 3SFE is rated for 115hp, and assuming the age of your engine, id bet you have about 90ish base line, and with your mods maybe 100hp.

The E153 has 2 variations: one w/ a 3.933 differential ratio (1MZ based) and one w/ a 4.285 differential ratio (3S-GTE based).

The S51 has one differential ratio as far as I know: 3.944.

The S54 also came in 2 different variations: one w/ a 4.176 diff. ratio (MR2/Celica 5S-FE based) and one w/ a 3.944 ratio (MR2 3S-GE based).

If the 3S-FE used the S51 (I'm not sure if it did) then why not just swap the differential gear for the S54's 4.176?

Use the charts in the link above for actual gear ratios.

An E153 w/ a 3S-FE will yield a slower car. Use a modified S51 or S54.

man, I have been wanting to say that for THE LONGEST. God was it bugging me. Thank you steve!!!

Even if we are just talking about at the Crank Userlain, and give you the benefit of the doubt that your engine is in tip top condition and still making the 115hp it made WHEN IT WAS NEW, I think the most you could possibly be making would be 125-130hp crank hp. I mean your exhaust is not catless, I doubt it is mandrel bent, pacesetter is not known for making the best products in the world, and you don't even have a CAI. And wires and crap do nothing. Even if your products were top notch, and your engine new, the majority of NA 4 cylinder engines don't gain more than 10whp total from those bolt ons you listed.

I am thinking about making a thread where I just call out people on the forum for saying stuff that pisses me off pretty soon.

Because no other transmission apart from the E52 (which we don't have here) will work with my 2VZ. Thats why i'm opting to install an E153!!!

3.933 as well, sorry I should've put V6 based for the diff. ratio.

A fully built 3S-FE can rev a lot higher than a fully built 5S-FE simply because of it's perfect square geometry. You'd just have to raise the rev limit and open up the head ... or opt for a G head.

The A540 based Automatic Transmissions all had 3.933.

E153 M/T's had a 3.63 final drive ratio.

Link to 1992 M/T Camry
Published Car and Driver data from 1992 M/T Camry

I can't speak for the E153's from any other car, but all Camry E153's are 3.63. I would expect all others to be as-well, but I don't feel like doing the reasearch to see either way.
If it were 3.93, then an ES 300 3vz-fe could only do 131mph @ 5,000rpm, when in fact, they can bust 140mph, and with some good mods, do 145mph+.

***********************

Yes... We all suspect that Userlain does not have 140 crank horsepower from a 3s-fe with the listed mods. GIVE IT A REST AND DON'T WHORE THIS THREAD WITH IT. If you want to "discuss" it, create another thread...

They have a 3.933 differential ratio from 1997-2001. I'm not totally sure about the years before that. The S51 has 3.944 as shown in the link below. Automatics seem to have the lowest.
