Hey everyone, about a year and a half ago I was driving into my garage too fast and i did not realize my antenna was up. But anyway, I went in too fast and didnt let the door go up all the way. So the door on its way up got in the way of the antenna and snapped it. DAMN. now i have this 2 inch long white thing sticking out of the socket. i think the motor still works because i can hear it everytime i turn on the radio. i have a 96 camry. where can i get a new mast?? i doubt the stealership will give me a good price and is it easy to install??sorry if this has already been covered.

Pep Boys sells a repalcement mast for the 92-96 Camry for $15. I found this out after I spent $42 on one at the dealership. A bit too late for my pocket book but good info for your's.
As far as replacing the mast, turn off the radio and the antenna (or what's left of it) will retract. Now remove the ring with the 2 slots 180 degrees apart from the base of the antenna. I found a retaining ring pliers works great for this but a few taps on a slotted screw driver also works. Just wrap a towel or rag around the base of ring so that if the screwdriver slips off, you wont scratch the paint. Now have someone else go inside the car and turn on the radio; the antenna along with the white nylon piece with teeth on one side will just come out in your hands. Note the direction of the teeth. Now feed the new mast and it's teeth in slightly and have someone turn off the radio. The gears inside will grab the nylon teeth and pull it right in. Once the mast is in, just screw back on the metal ring with the slots and you are done
Wow, that's a tidbit I didn't know. Stupid me. I did mine by pulling the tunk panel, then the antenna, then pulling it apart and winding the darn thing manually. Who knew it could be so simple.

Glad I could help; at least for the next time it needs to be replaced. If there is a broken piece of the white nylon gear teeth left inside, you have to go after it the way you did and take the whole thing apart to remove the piece. If it ever happens to you that way, you at least have experience in taking it apart. I thought the replacement mast at Pep Boys for $15 was a better tidbit. I don't know if you have Pep Boys in Canada.
