Connection for home made electronics shift lights
I have an electronics shift light kit installed in my car, which is from the local electronics store.
It uses three lamps to stage the RPM's at what you preset. Ive got two of them running, one at 5000RPM(green) and the other at 6500RPM(red).
This kit offers various methods of connection to determine the RPM including:
-Hall Effect
-Points
-Low Voltage
-Signal Reluctor
-Ignition Coil
Several sources have said to me that my car uses hall effect pickup on the distributor, although, i havn't used any wires near the distributor, I have used a BLACK wire from the ignitor.
Problem is, it is very unreliable. Sometimes, both lights will come at idle, sometimes not at all, other times, the shift points are off. I want to trace the problem, so first I thought of asking where is the best place to have it connected to.
Thanks.
