New brembo cross drilled rotors and akebono pro-act brake pads (gonna get stainless steel brake lines on my next check) . Should I do it myself or should I have a professional do it? Is this a Difficult process? I'm pretty sure my calipers are doin good I may slap some paint on them or something but is there anything else brake wise I should replace while I'm at it?
diy, but do it by the book or you'll be shakin' when you' brakin.' do a search for "camry shop manual" to get some info and go to harbor freight to get a dial indicator set up for like $20.
Brakes on a 3g are cake. Just make sure you buy whatever tool takes the disc off.. Its a screw of some kind I think.. it presses the disc off. I used a sledgehammer and made a mess of the old disc. Other than that, its like 4-6 bolts, two sockets, a breaker bar, and that tool to take off the disc.
anyone know of the exact tool myconid is talking about?
thanks everyone
IIRC, his got stuck so he resorted to... erm... kind barbaric methods.
Mine came off without a problem, you shouldn't need a special tool.
The only real 'special tool' that might really help would be a breaker bar for the caliper bolts.
My car is california only and the rotors will readily fall off (no rust or corrosion to hold them on) if not secured by lug nuts or the caliper assembly. If you ever need this tool, rent one at Kragen's.
I did mine the other day, all I used was a socket wrench and a rubber mallet to remove the old rotors and a large C-clamp or adjustable wrench to push the caliper piston back in. ...no need to bleed the lines, just remove the brake res cover before you start to release any presure when you push the piston back and replace it when you finish, then pump the brakes a few times before you go anywhere.
