3VZ Header-back done (now with pics/clips)

got it done..er.. yesterday, although i am short a crossover pipe on the y-pipe, and still running the stock cat, which will be deleted on monday.

dont mind the format, i just did a copy+paste from my LJ.

thursday was a semi busy day, i had to get out of the house in preparation for friday -- car exhasut system, which would take the most of a day and starting from 8am. i crashed at a friends place which is located closer to the store, got 3 hours of sleep.. results? mental hp: 10, seat of the pants hp: 0, real world: being a larger diameter exhasut, low end suffers, and it is quite noticible under 4000rpm. but above that is where it all happens. the bark of the acis valve, the hollow roar of the 3.0l motor, and no longer above 6000rpm does the engine strain, this was a major weakpoint, leaving a big flatspot between gears. now the car revs freely to the 7100rpm cutout removing the flat spot between gears, making hi speed runs faster. i have a feeling the scavenging is poor mid 3rd gear, and ill have to check that out again. cruising speeds, 80-100kph results in a dead silent note, quieter then the stock system, which imo is great. relieved of $750. got a free coffee mug and sticker

and in adidtion bits

hotdog resonator, oval- straight though- fiberglass packed- muffler, single slashcut non rolled stainless tip. all but the tip is painted black for the sleepy-ish look

wounds like a 4 banger iwth an exhaust. also when its still cold it sounds like a hypo on vtec all teh time sound.

i have pics on my camera, which i left at friends place, and also will do sound clip b4 i post pics.

Cool

Props for getting the work done after much discussion!
Lemmie guess, yall used 2 1/4" mandrel bent from the collector to the Y pipe and found out 3 cylinders loose a lot of exhaust velocity in 2 1/4" mandrel bent pipe! The 3" from the cat back aint helping you either down low.
But you can use all of that for your turbo plans!!! Ah well, good show on the top end gains! Now get a port and polish done & install a Unichip, or SMT, put in by one of Australia's billion awsome tuning shops, and make some real mid to high rpm horsepower!

thats what i did too... the hole at the bottom of the headers is 1.75" ID, so 2" runners is more than enough.

yeah i love the sound too.. it is like vtec or vvti on lift

but my car still falls on its face at ~6000 rpm, something must be wrong with my car, its always been like that.

mine only sounds like that at cold, once its warmed up, i dont know... sounds kinda like a flat 6, not a v6.

That sounds sooo good. I love the burble. Mine sorta sounds like that too..but its al little more 'roary' than burbly.
They are custom extractors yeah?
Is it loud? I was considering perhaps chaging my stainless canons to 2 glasspack mufflers..some people have said that it will be really quiet..jus the nature of V6's.

yeah i love the burble at low rpm too makes it sound like its almost got hot cams (regrind coming as soon as i can find someone who can do it with a core return.)

the headers are the stock really short stumpy ones. accoering to erm.. cough yeah we all know who, its not really worth the money to get extractors done, the main bad bit in our v6's is that restrictive y pipe. im gonna get a crossover welded between teh 2 downpipes done on monday, im just wondering, would it be better to get it as far away from the collector as possible?

sound you get with ya mufflers will depend really on the amount of packing and the size... the oval i got is reletiveley quiet becuase its nice and.. erm.. big? lots of glasspack, and it will only get quiet over the week. when i first had it it sounded really relly really ricey, and the past days its been softening down very nicely.

your cannons would have packing in them but theres not much room to stuff a lot of packing in.

never said it b4 but you got a nice ass camry JetspeedCamry. theres only like enough done up camrys in australia to count on 2 hands, if that...and that includes ppl who get a set of mags and leave it at that

Thanx Terrastife.
I was actually quite suprised coz i would of thought my cannons would make it sound really ricey and farty too...but in fact..with the twin setup and my extractors (+ resos) it sounds really nice. The sound is perfect. But was thinking of experimenting with it one day.

When people say the extractors arent worth it...for ur's maybe..im not sure of the gains with the 3vz..simply because...standard..your manifold design is a lot better than mine!
The 2vz had a very odd front bank manifold which goes to the side and then over the trans. Makes for a very restrictive system!
So with my extractors..they were made to run straight down and under the sump..much like yours. Make the engine much more responsive and top end power is increased quite a bit.

Well done.

Cool

Headers on a 3vz-fe will gain 5hp. The upgraded headers for SOHC 3vz-e's gain 7hp with intake mods, the only differance is the direction they face.

Very un-worth the cost if you ask me.
