would it be possible, if i had the all trac camry, to use the 3SGTE tranny that comes with the celica? would the drive shaft bolt up? or would i have to make something work? thanks for the help.

if i have an all trac camry, can i use the driveshaft from that and bolt it up to the stock 3SGTE tranny from the celica all trac. they are both all wheel drives, just want to know if i can use the drive shaft instead of having to buy the E153 tranny and trying to figure out the front axle configuration. that is unless someone knows the exact hub and axle assembly to use for the 3SGTE motor and E153 trans.

I don't know of anyone who's tried it. Your best bet would be to have a donor Celica, then you should have whatever parts you might need for the Camry.

Axles from the all-trac Camry do not bolt up to the Celica All-trac tranny. The rear driveshaft might, but the rear end is probably a different ratio.

GarretRobert check your PM,

blkdmnrcing, can i clarify a few details? you want to put the 3sgte into the Camry Alltrac, but you wish to use the e153 tranny? iirc the e153 is a 2wd box, the e52 might be what your referring to. your best bet would be to try and get a look at a celica gt4, or even enquire on the celica forums...

cheers

it was a hypothetical (sp?) question. i have a 1989 FWD toyota camry, but have the chance to buy a AWD camry. just wanted to know what would be easier. i know what trans i need, my dad has worked at Toyota for 26 years fixing them and things like that. him and i just cant figure out the right axle to hub set up for the E153 trans on my car.

ah getcha now, i thought you were doing the 3sgte into camry alltrac...

i'm not sure what axles and hubs are required to use the e153 either but would love to find out, maybe jetspeed can help as he's using the same transmission for his 5spd 2vzfe conversion...

Cheers

Axles from a Gen3 Camry (3vzfe or 1mzfe) or Solara will fit the E153.
Also, i believe MR2's that used the E153, there axles may fit also.

I don't think anything else does.
For my swap..i will try to use 3vzfe inner axles with my 2vzfe outer axles.

or.... they should both have 27 spline shafts.... put the celica inner joints on the camry axle shafts. btw, get the celica's rear diff also, see if you can use the camry driveshaft
