Question Need help installing fog lights

I just got some Hella foglights and I want to install them on my car. but... I don't know where the parking light wire is. I read an earlier thread that it is under the fuse box, and the color is white? It's dark right now and I can't see anything. Ok, if I find the wire later, do I splice the wire? I don't know anything about electrical stuff. Any tips would really be appreciated. Thanks.

You're in luck. I'm here and I'll attest that this sacramento valley fog sucks and has forced me to buy some for myself too. If you bought yourself the tiny little ones, there seems to be predrilled holes for them in the metal part of the bumper precisely 24.0 inches from eachother and ready to accept single (5/16 - I think, but definately the ones that came with the aftermarket kit) bolts.

Having highs+lows+fogs on at the same time Might be illegal in california (might because I'm not a bar member) because that is more than four lights. Also, having fogs on without the headlights may also give the po's another reason to pull you over. Anyways, I designed a system from scratch that behaves identically to the gen5 foglight system, I have a OEM toyota foglight switch that fits perfectly right next to the e-brake in those little blank/holes that lights up whenever I turn on the fogs. If you wanted to tap the enable wire from the parking lights, you can tap it along any of the sidemarker lamps - working too close to the fusebox is not advised, nor is electrical work in near darkness. The best way to route wires from the engine to the cab is by removing the passenger side wheel well to gain access to the cab-engine access points. There are already wires around there, just cable-tie your new wires to the black cables and stay away from the yellow ones.

Thank you for your response. Sacramento fog sucks.

I guess the bumper does have the slots but it's not predrilled

I don't want to have highs+lows+fogs. But I do want the fogs to come on when its kinda dusky, not totally night. That's why I want to tap into the side markers. Is it illegal to have just fog lights on?

BTW You live in Sac? I live in Sacramento too near the Natomas area.

I would try to tap in from the back of a removed marker lamp. Get a cheap plastic wire piercing 12 volt test lamp to determine which wire to use. And BTW you will also need a relay and a inline fuse holder.

what I meant was, precisely 12.0 inches from the centerline, on the bumper's metal supports in the back are holes that can be used to mount the small circle type lights.

I have a tap from hb line red/black through a 1amp fuse to the cab switch back to the coil of a spdt 1amp relay and also to the nc line of same relay. the other end of the coil goes through a 1n4001 diode and back to the hb line red (there is a 3.3k resistor in parallel with that coil). The common for that relay goes to the coil of an automotive 30 amp relay, the other end of that coil is grounded. that 30amp relay connects batt+ to the foglights via a 15amp atc fuse right after the battery. I grounded the fogs to their mounts.

Works like a charm, try to get a toyota 00550-35976 switch, it looks better than any aftermarket switch I have seen, and fits the toyota perfectly. Ive seen them online for as little as 7 dollars, but I ended up paying 16 for one at stevens creek toyota. They might also have them in davis. I just used those blade-style taps for connecting to the wiring. Since I'm controlling them via the high/lowbeams I didn't have to tap the parking lights, or the lowbeams because the highs and lows share a common +.

I bought the Hella Optilux 1002. Here is the link: http://www.hella.com/produktion/Opti...Model_1002.jsp It comes with the relay and fuse and looks very easy to install.

It's a very tight fit into that little dam on a gen3 camry. I mean...it fits but I can't really adjust it. So I guess I'm gonna have to mount in just a little towards the front more.

I think I'm going to try and tap it in the side markers.

Thanks for all your help!

in that case you can use the green lines going to any of the lights that come on in park as a source of power to switch the relay on and off with.

I'm thinking about replacing mine with the opti 2020 because of the dual lights and stuff, I can't stress getting that (oem) switch enough though.
