New PSP and High Pressure lines?

JP Imports has reccomended heavily to me that i deal with the small leak in my power steering before i replace my rack and pinion. but i cannot get an exact reason why. the system works fine, it just leaks a small amount. i have to add a cup of fluid or so every month.

so why would i need to replace the power steering system?

it is performing good. on cold starts (in the early morning when temsp are below 40 or so) it emits a loud groaning noise. to stop this noise, i get otu of the car, open th ehood and pull the cap of the resivoir for just a second and replace it. the sound disappears. what is causing this?

it is quit for the rest fo the day, and will soemtimes go for days without me having to do this.

JP Imports has hinted that they will not replace the rack until they have fixed the power steering, but this will cost $$$$ that i dont have, and at this point, the system is doing its job. the rack and pinion however, isnt.

any ideas?
