Jus got a question for you non-newbies out there. How exactly did you guys learn about modding cars and sheeit? I think I've read all the past posts I'm interested in and I still feel like a newbie. Are there any other sources out there that can help me? I've been to http://www.howstuffworks.com already. Thanks all. Laterrr
U see warped, we are all machines. Yes, machines. Now i know this may sound crazy, but its true. We are actually manufactured by toyota. So thats how we know how to mod our cars. We run on mustard and pepsi. We are easy to maintain, and we are vertually rust-free. U can pick one of us up at your local toyota dealership. You may buy or lease...the choice is up to you.
I'm just trying to save everyone the trouble of answering my newbie questions by just asking one: Where did you all start out? I'm trying to be as independent as I can so I won't burden any of you with newbie sh*t. :???:

i understand man, everyone starts somewhere. for me i learned a majority of stuff from justin conde (aka wraith) and just talking with him for hours online about toyota engines. after i knew some facts, i went to http://www.howstuffworks.com and read up on all that shiznit. most recently, ive gotten to the point where i can finally make my own conclusions about engine issues, and know enuf that i can recommend stuff.
so basically i think you are going to learn most by doing exactly what you are doing now, just reading and taking in as much as possible. if you dont understand something, then ask. you dont just have to ask on the forums, but online chat is a great way to learn as well.
Once you learn how engine works, then everything falls into places. For Camrys/Solaras there aren't many aftermarket parts available so it shouldn't be hard to find out how they improve your car. Also, many people with modded Camrys/Solaras have pretty much the same modifications... (Almost like the cookie cutter..) just follow what other people did to their cars..
I learned my stuff from Mustang people, and I tell you there are SO many aftermarkets out there for Mustangs, if you don't know what you are doing you will buy bad combinations of aftermarket parts and engine will actually perform poorly... Heads for example, there are about 50 different heads for Mustangs...

First off, I commend you for being proactive and researching on your own
The short and skinny for me was high school auto mech. class and the 'net. Once you understand the basics of the interanl combustion engine, the rest is pretty simple. The hardcore/advanced stuff is pretty much specialized knowledge. For example, I couldn't tell you sh1t all about B16, B18, B20 and H22 Honda engines or Garrett T20s or Eaton thingamajiggys
I started by listening to my friends talking crap about honda this and honda that. i first learned most all there is to know about hondas then was like my moms camry looks better and is faster stock than most hondas out there and one day she gave it to me ... and the saga began and i found this site. A quality site for learners and teachers i might add.
