Maintenance Indicator on. Answers please.

Okay. I just passed my first 5000 miles mark today. All of the sudden, the maintenance light indicator turns on. I"m like, "WTF?" So, I've narrowed it down to this final opinion. Can it be that it's telling me to change the oil? Because, I already set an oil change appointment at my local dealer. So, is it related to telling me to have a oil change? Or is it something else? Hope it's not my transmission or rear drums.

Oil is the culprit. My second choice would have been gredy Toyota dealership saying that they want $$$.

hehe, thnx. I thought so. At least it's better than my mom's oil alert. Her freakin screen in the dashboard blinks like crazy, it's like yelling at us to change oil.

RESETTING THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT ON GENERATION V CAMRY

1. put key in ignition

2. turn key to ACC

3. press and hold trip

4. turn key to ONN

5. keep holding trip until countdown (5...4...3...2...1) ends

6. release trip button

Maintenance light is now reset.

there is a maintenance light that will make itself known at precisely 4500 miles, and will annoy at precisely 5000 miles. it is for the engine oil, it measures oil mileage. it is not for oil pressure. it can be reset. there is no comparable light on earlier camrys.

Oh! You answered my most compelling question. I was wondering why the maintenance light kept flashing for couple of seconds when I turned on my car after I passed 4500 miles.

Thanks for the info. That helped, but i'm planning to go to the dealers this week anyways, so I'll just leave it at this.

And I don't think it's my emission. I only drove this car for four months. Can't be emissions, it's still brand new.

let them show you how to reset it, don't fix your car if it would otherwise disqualify it from being fixed for free. the reset proceedure is way in the back of the instruction manual somewhere
