engine rattle

we have an 03 camry, and something in the engine rattles when you press on the accelerator. it sounds like a diesel when you take off. surely it isn't the valves but it sure does sound like it. it is not a plastic sound, but it seriously sounds like a diesel. anybody else have this and figured it out?

I dont know but I would take it to a local gas station with a garage (usually the good ol' boys that'll look at your car for free) and get them to tell ya what that is. Sounds scarry but it could be something very simple.

I got the same Problem. I hear it louder when i accelerate. I brought it back to the dealer and they told me it was my Pully and changed it under warranty. But minutes later like after 2 min i drove out of the dealer i started hearing it again and when i went back they told me to do the $400 15k service. which i turned down cause its alot of money. I think they were trying to pushme to do the service cause i seem young and he prob thought i dont know anything bout cars.

It's very likely the serpentine belt tensioner is rattling. It frequently fails. Lasts about 2 years / 20,000km on mine. Looks like this:

You can also buy the whole tensioner assembly but it is not necessary:

we were able to take it to the dealer as it was still under warranty. they said the head gasket was blown, and that was the rattle. they replaced that and all it well now. thanks for your replies.
