Rack and Pinion Problem- SOLVED (saved massive $$$$$$)
Some of you know i have been having issues with my rack and pinion. Some of those who have followed my problem further know that my mechanic (JP Importz of Garland TX ) had a problem with doing the job. I now know why. He doesnt like to install aftermarket parts due to liabiity issues.
So i made everyone happy. I get a part that will last longer, and my mechanic doesnt have to install aftermarket parts. I just got a KILLER deal from (you all are never gonna believe this)...
my local Lexus/Toyota dealer.
The rack itself, brand new is $786 from Lexus/Toyota. I got it for $367. I saved $419 The Ball Joints were $49 from Lexus/Toyota. I got them for $30.97, Saving $18.03The outer tie rods are $64 at lexus/toyota, im getting them for $35 a piece, i saved $29, and i bought 2 so $58
So i saved a grand total of: $495.03, by shopping at a STEALERSHIP. see, they arent all bad!
all parts from LEXUS...NEW. not remanufactured. i will have my mechanic install these parts next week. for a price of around $450 or so.
Big thanks to an undisclosed frined, who has a friend who happens to be the Manager of Parts and Service at Toyota of Irving TX.
EDIT: i just realized where i posted this, can someone move it to the Gemerl Discussion section?

The parts-counter guy that works at the Toyota dealer I bought this Lex from undercuts normal dealer prices by a good bit for me (not at cost, but not far from it) simply because I get random cheap things from him fairly often. (always get to know your parts counter guys! Always talk about things) I can go to a different dealer I have some friends working at and get stuff at cost...
Eww, now the Lexus dealerships Total stealership.
But yeah, Toyota OEM parts are normally fairly in-line with the aftermarket ones if you get a little help.
Real glad you're back on the road a01
