Question Quick Tire Size question- 215-50-17 to 225-45-17?

I have a quick question about changing my tire size and if I need to do anything or if it will fit. I am running 17x7 wheels (Sport Edition Fox 2), and 215-50-17 Continental ContiExtreme Contact tires.

I may need to get a set of new tires soon, and was wondering if I can change it to 225-45-17? Will they fit my current setup? I think w/ my current 50, the sidewall is a bit too tall..wouldn't mind it being more low-profile.

or should I stick w/ 215-50-17?

thanks

Cool

You can, but 215-50's will be faster and handle better than a wider tire on our size vehicle.
Always ask yourself, " Is there too much sidewal, or did I not drop my car enough?" 9/10 it's "I didn't drop my car enough"!

225's will fit on a 7 inch rim for sure, I have 225/45's on my 17's. But since my car isn't lowered, it doesn't look right...I'll be moving up to 225/50/17 which won't throw my speedo off by too much.

225/45/17s are a tad small for a stock size 205/65/15 tire. 215/50/17's are the closest size.

thanks for the info. I dropped my car w/ eibach springs (1.2-1.4" about). The drop was what I wanted, but i think there is too much sidewall left. but maybe i'll try what silver streak said... 225/40/17

No no, don't go for 225/50. I'm doing that because I have a HUGE gap that I want to fill with sidewall since my car isn't lowered. 225/50 will ADD more sidewall than any of the previously mentioned sizes.

Go for the 225/45, it gives the smallest profile of the three.
