I modified the suspension on my '02 Camry... Here is what I did:
Eibach Pro Kit Springs
TRD Front Strut Tower Brace
TRD Rear Sway Bar
17" Rims with 225/50ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
Warranty replaced shocks with 18,500 miles and had gone bad
The final result is a Camry that handles great. The Eibach Pro Kit actually lowered more than I wanted. I'll get some scrapes on certain tall speed bumps. The lowering springs are the part of the installation I have mixed feelings about. The OEM shocks are really crappy- I think they may be made by KYB. When quality aftermarket shocks are more readily available for GEN 5 Camrys then I'd look to those, and I will avoid the KYB brand in favor of others.
The 17" rims I chose are the same 17" 5-spoke rims that are available on the 2005 Camrys and Solaras. You can find them on e-bay for between $500 and $600. They are really nice looking I think and the 225/50ZR17 Michelin tires fit them perfectly without any rubbing. I had nice 16" wheels on my XLE that I now need to sell. After 19,000 miles the original tires were worn, so I just figured I'd rather buy rubber for the bigger rims.
My final recommendation- do all that I did except the springs. Lowering the car had the least improvement on handling and the most worsening of ride comfort. Look for super stiff quality shocks instead.
