1MZ throttle body cleaning *pics*

I just finished cleaning the throttle body, here are some before shots

And after

I got the idea from solaraguy.com , click here for the turorial.

The first start up is pretty rough, and in the process of cleaning the throttle body I accidentally knocked off the throttle cable(thats what Im calling it at least), so when I went to give it gas nothing would happen and the gas pedal felt limp, but I got it figured out pretty quickly.

im gonna try some seafoam deep creep on my tb.

edit: I may aswell just pull off the tb and the plenum and do it that way (and resurface the plenum a bit).

Cool

Any cleaner should.

It's the entire system from the back of the throttle plate to the muffler that get's caked with Exhaust carbon. (eventually it causes problems with the throttle body plate, and ACIS plates not closing, among other tihngs) The crap on the front of the TB is just misc oil-n-crap sucked up from the top of the front head. (It's a PCV system without a valve)

What you can do is THIS and it iwll make a huge differance!

GJ cleaning the TB out!

Are there any other parts connected to the throttle Body that could get a cleaning?
Perhaps removing the throttle Body itself. I see 2 bolts holding the TB in place.

Cool

Everything in the engine.
The throttle body.

Upper air intake chamber
intake manifold
cylinder heads / combustion chamber
pistons
valves
exhaust manifolds.

Start working at the top (throttlebody) and pull things off the engine until you're uncomfortable to continue.

The simple fact is *all* of it needs to be cleaned. The further down the path you go, the worse it gets! Ahhhh the stupid things we do for emessions.

i used a trottle body cleaned by STP. Works the same like any degreaser or break cleaner. I took my trottle body out and clean out the manifold where the PCV valve goes back to.

Word of caution, when removing the trottle body, be prepared to replace the gasket. Or be really careful not to destroy it so that you can reuse it.

Vavoline Throttle Body Cleaner with synthetic cleaners also works great. Usually having a toothbruth to scrub all that carbon deposit out is also a good idea. But like Toysrme said, cleaning the throttle body is just the beginning to many other things. Seafoaming through the brake booster vaccum line can also help out. A full treatment of seafoam into the oil crankcase, the gas tank and the vaccum line should show results.
