Just got my Unorthodox Underdrive Crank Pulley in mail today!
Like the title said, I ordered from nopi.com. it was the cheapest I could find for 5sfe. It was $170 plus about $14 s/h. ordered it friday, got it today (tues)...fast shipping
I have to wait till this saturday to install it, and it takes a few days of driving for the ECU to recalibrate itself. can't wait to see how it performs afterwards
got to admit, it was really small and light, like 7-8 lbs? wow, much lighter than stock (like 22lbs or something??)

Yeah, everyone I have talked to said that they kill your engine life horribly if you don't upgrade your dampner. I wouldn't install them right away personally. But that's just me.

im thinking bout getting one of these also what is this damper you speak of? and how much are they? and how badly do they kill your engine life? oh yeah the main question where can i get a better one?
i emailed Joe at unorthodox racing about the pulley and this is what he has to say. btw, i'm still installing it, bec I might get a new (or used) car in 1-2 yrs
"People are confusing the pulley for a Harmonic damper found and needed on most V8 applications. There is a rubber elastomer sandwiched into the pulley that looks similar to a damper but is there for noise suppression from the groan of the alternator and p/s pump and when the a/c compressor kicks on and off. A damper is used to control twisting motion, every throw of the piston & rod twists the crank journal and when it rebounds in sync with other deflections at certain frequencies can cause a crack in the crank not to protect bearings. While these forces are present in all engines they are not detrimental in small displacement short crank shaft lighter rotating assembly engines especially 4 cyl. engines because they have an opposing stroke to cancel out the harmful frequencies. Harmonic balancer is a term that is used loosely in the automotive industry. Technically this does not exist. The balancer part comes from engines that are externally balanced and have a counterweight cast into the damper, hence the melding of the two terms. None of the applications that we offer utilize a counterweight as part of the pulley as these engines are internally balanced. We have not had any problems for 7 years with pulleys on engines from daily drivers to heavily modified cars."

well, keep us updated with it. perhaps you can be the test mule.
I certainly wouldn't expect unorthodox to suggest that their own product can cause damage.
Do they in any way garuntee that it won't cause any damage?
sure i'll be the test mule when I graduate in may 05, maybe i'll be able to finally afford another car. looking at an used honda S2000....2002, w/ about 25K. about $22K

I was looking at those as well, let me know if it does anything worth while.
no problem. i'm installing it tomorrow - saturday, and it takes a few days for ECU to recalibrate. i'm pretty sure i'll notice a difference.

oh ok...i just got that info about recalibration from another TN member who had one installed. maybe not ECU, but he said it took a few days of driving around for the car to recognize the new pulley and slower rotation and for him to notice the power difference.
well, anyhow...i'll install tomorrow and update here as soon as i notice a change

quick update. just installed my crank pulley w/ new AC/alternator belt, and new power steering belt. no problems there.
drove around for about 10 min local streets. did not notice anything yet. Maybe i have to wait for it to"reprogram" itself or anything.
but the OEM pulley is so heavy compared w/ the UD pulley. at least like 15lbs more!! or probably even more lbs!
i'll update as i notice anything
