About two months ago, I replaced the timing belt by myself. Now, I find the MPG is much lower than before. Someone told me that I needed to adjust the distributor. My car is 98 camry, and I am pretty sure there is no distributor. So I am wondering what causes this problem. By the way, if I haven't adjust the timing pretty well, will it affect the acceleration?
many thanks
if youre timing is off yes it will effect mpg and acceleration etc la di da... :P err thats all i can really explain

do you have a v6 or i4? that'll help a lot.
if it's a v6, you're right, you can't adjust the timing (it's uses DIS)
if your car is an i4, you can adjust timing.

Incorrect timing due to a worn belt or just incorrect calibration can indeed affect acceleration and a number of other factors.
Hell I had the TB replaced on my Solara at about 70k I think and the engine note was a lot different in the high RPM band, as well as a slightly different power curve.

I have a I4, could you tell me how to adjust timing. I think I installed the tb correctly, because I did just what the toyota manual said. And I found a really strange thing, the new tb is a little longer that the old one. Could it cause this problem?

hmm, the slack in the belt could be allowing the timing to slip a little bit over time.
perhaps something wasnt tightened properly?
I have no idea why it would be longer than the original.
