No, new gaskets seal well enough on their own, anything else is just something small easily blown out.
(Incase I am the only once that ever noticed them)
IDK what they're called, but they're are aluminum inserts that seal exhaust portion of head that fit inside a cut-out of (for a then possible) manufacturing of true GE heads. (Seems to me like they were planning on using the same stock, but never got around to it)
Anyways... 3vz and 5vz heads have the cutout for a longer, timing belt driven exhaust camshaft.
^ Point being if you took that insert out, you might want to re-seal that.
