Torque Setting for Valve Covers

Just need to know the torque setting for the 6 bolts per rocker cover on my 2VZFE.
I experimented with it..becuase i don't have it listed in my manual and did a bolt up fingertight, and then one half turn with a ratchet.

WoW I never knew they fit pushrods and rockers in DOHC!
Juuust joking.

It's really light. On a 3vz it's like 10 or 15lb-ft for the valve covers. The object isn't to squish the gasket so you can't see it. That will leak. You just want to snug it down a bit to create a good seal.

Thought so.
I think my method felt like about the 10-20lb-ft mark.
Done up fingertight and then an extra one half turn with the ratchet or spanner.

Just another quick one.
When installing the valve covers..i will use new gaskets. Is it necessary to run the blue silicon stuff for sealing it? I painted up the valve covers on my friends 3SGE. We used new gaskets and it sealed great. No leaks. And looks better too because of the neater finish around the edge.

No, new gaskets seal well enough on their own, anything else is just something small easily blown out.

(Incase I am the only once that ever noticed them)
IDK what they're called, but they're are aluminum inserts that seal exhaust portion of head that fit inside a cut-out of (for a then possible) manufacturing of true GE heads. (Seems to me like they were planning on using the same stock, but never got around to it)

Anyways... 3vz and 5vz heads have the cutout for a longer, timing belt driven exhaust camshaft.

^ Point being if you took that insert out, you might want to re-seal that.
