Smoking Front Brakes

Hello again, My Camry is roughly at a little over 2000 miles and I have noticed that the front brakes have a bad burnt smell when I'm done driving. Also I have noticed them to smoke when I come to a stop and this is without hitting a puddle (having that steam effect).

Are the brakes still being broken in or is it something I should worry about. I know I'm not hard on the brakes and this is during regular daily driving or even freeway driving. I've done a search, but have yet to come acroos some information pertaining to this subject.

Anybody else experience this?

Dude, it's my opinion that a lot of the new car smell is burning brake pads, but really I don't know if this is abnormal or not. Some people know how to drive down hills, most don't. Although every car's instruction manual tell you to downshift, some folks like to ride their brakes and coming down an especially steep hill I have see people brakes fume clouds of smoke when they stop. Unless that's you I think that it's probably normal and just might go away, is it really strong do they smoke or glow red hot (if you're looking at them in complete darkness) are you certain it's not something else on the car. Well, anyways, I that you should put a couple more thouseand miles on the car and re-asses.

Drive the car until they are hot and then drive over to the dealer's service department and ask them. This is a brand new car and you have a warranty.

if it wasn't a new car, I would have said there was rust on the shims that could be burning

one time after changing my brakes, I actually had little flames and big black smoke, so....anything's possible sometimes...

I say what ^ they're all saying...bring it to the dealer and let them figure it out

2000 miles is way too much for breaking the brakes in (if that makes sense at all). It could be a sticking caliper. I would take it to the dealer and have them check it, like Mike said it should be under warranty.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll have to stop by the dealership sometime this week. I just hope they don't give me one of those " We couldn't replicate the problem" stories.

When you buy a new car..don't they bed the brakes, motor etc in before they sell it?
I've seen some brand new cars be run pretty hard right out of the dealership!
