Unhappy passenger side brakelight not working.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here but I'll try to be specific about the problem I'm having. I have a 1990 camry that has all the lights working now since I checked and replaced 5 of the bulbs. The only light that doesn't come on is the passenger side brakelight. My dash warning light is on to indicate a broken light somewhere. Wiring harness on the driver side up near the truck hinge seems fine. I also checked the yellow light sensor failure relay in the trunk and opened it up. There was some black scorching along one of the wires on the circuit board and it looks like the heat cracked the circuit board a little but there are NO broken wires. Is there something else I should be looking for to correct this problem? Is there any way to test the relay. I don't have the schematic for it.

thanks for any help you can send my way,
David

Have you checked the voltage AT the socket ?? I would inspect that socket. Get one of the cheap 12 volt test lamps, plastic translucent handle and sharp tip and ground wire and clip. (auto parts store)

I dont mean this as a joke or anything. But I have the same problem but just on the drivers side. Whenever It goes out, I just step out the car, and pound on the light once or twice, and then it comes back on. Maybe you should try that.

I checked everything in my car and everything is fine. I even changed the bulbs twice and still happens. It happens maybe like 4 times a year. So my advice would be to pound on it like 5 or 6 times pretty hard and it should come on.

^^It's amazing what all a little banging can fix. When my tail light would give me trouble it would be due to water leaking on the bulb and socket causing it to corrode.
