removing tie rod end from steering knuckle

how the hell do i get thsi thing off? no matter how hard i hit it upwards with a hammer it wont budge

You can't hammer it off like that. You need a forked wedge to hammer into the joint to pop it. Loosen the castlenut, but leave it on some of the threads so that when it pops it'll stop. The forked wedge is about $25 CDN at an auto place.

There are two types of common forked wedges, one for ball joints and one for the steering nuckle, the latter is smaller, the fork is narrower.

Disregard making this purchase, you don't need to remove the steering nuckle to get the half axle out, read the other thread you started.

ok i will try to get the axle off without disconnecting the tie rod end. sorry for crossposting, i didnt expect both threads to converge into the same subject. you can delete one of these threads mods
