Weird Acceleration Issue

I have noticed the under full acceleration (pedal to the floor!) the car doesnt accelerate as quickly as it does when the pedal is 90% to the floor.

I notice this on a nice cool night, where the car would be running really well.

Onto a straight..foot down the pedal 80%....then 90$ (pulls sooo good) and then flat to floor...seemed like it lost a bit of acceleration.

It's not like a surging or momentary thing..its all the time. If i hold the pedal at about 90%...the car keeps accelerating great!

What could be causing this problem?

I was under the impression that full power is obtained with the pedal to the floor, unless its not tuned properly. This happens, not just with my airbox installed, but with my open POD filter aswell.

Any ideas?

all the cars ive driven have done this aswell
my old Gen3, my Gen5.5 and my dad's Kluger.....
if i mash the pedal it will not accelerate as well as 90% like you said...

i have a feeling it has something to do with the automatic transmissions...
i guess they are like that

Ok. Yeah my girlfriends Paseo doesnt do it, that being manual, so perhaps it is something to do with auto transmissions.

I might aswell just adjust the throttle cable to open only 90%! Good idea?

Anybody got anymore ideas or explanation why there like this?

The limitations on your torque converter (which acts as the clutch) is the reason behind this symptom.

Well..for as long as the auto is in there, why not just adjust the throttle so it only opens to 90%! Then you'll get full torque converter lockup everytime you floor it.

Adjustment or Driving?
For adjustment, just look at the throttle assembly (the part the pivots and opens the butterfly in your TB) and adjust it so that when you depress the pedal fully, the assembly still has a little bit to go.

Otherwise for driving, i would just floor it, and then lift your foot off slightly.

Damn these 2VZ's sound good tho with an open filter!!! Roooaarr.

have someone push the pedal to the floor while you look at the throttle plate

if you wanna be really exact for 90%, do this:

Put a mark on the throttle cable/assembly (the part that rotates)
Get a protractor and center it on the center peg of the assembly
have someone press the pedal to the floor and see what angle the mark moved.
Multiply that by 0.9 or 90%
Reset the assembly so that, when the pedal is on the floor, the mark comes to this angle.

I personally will leave mine alone, because when this is done it prevents you from running WOT if you wanna go top speed. You can only get 90% throttle.

Yeah that works!
Dont really do WOT throttle pulls around here! Theres too much cop presence!
But yeah..perhaps the best thing to do is just manipiulate the pedal a bit when accelerating..that way u still have the option of going WOT.

Cool

Oh wow boys...The transmission scales with rpm... It doesn't matter if the engine is running @ 50%, or if it's running at 100%. More power = more acceleration <period>.

Look for an actual engine problem.
Take the hose to the airbox off and flip the throttle open. Look down the throttle body and see how far the plate is opening. If it opens fine the good.
May have some very slight fuel problem also, so check the related system for that too. You know the drill
