Camry stalling

It's been doing this for a few weeks, somewhat randomly. It only happens when I'm stopped at a light and when it's cold out. When I start the car after it stalls, it takes longer than normal to get the engine running again. Any ideas on why this is happening? I think my battery may be shitting the bed soon so maybe that's why? Or is it the batt/alt/starter combo? Could it be the fact that I've never changed my spark plugs since I got the car (35k miles ago)?

We need more information! (Engine/AT?)

But you always want to start with the simple stuff and work towards the harder stuff. It sounds like the timing is dropping too low when stopped....a bad batch of gas can do this....or dirty gas filter or dirty air filter....simple stuff!

I'm amazed at how long people go without changing their gas filter....it's pretty important with today's electronically controlled engines. (And never EVER get gas at a convenience store! Always get gas at a GAS STATION....Exxon, Texaco, etc.)

Oops, missed the vehicle info

Ooops, I didn't notice the vehicle info on your post.

Okay, it's an AT....again, if you haven't changed the air filter/fuel filter in a while (should be done once a year) I'd do that, first.

Battery? That's the last thing...keep it simple! Spark plugs? Hmmmm....miles are low but, again, I wouldn't go more than 3 years without changing. (Or, at least, popping them out and inspecting them.)

I've even seen altitude change affect the timing, which is set electronincally. To reset the timing, you disconnect the battery, let it set for at least 20 seconds, and reconnect. This wipes out the saved timing data in the memory module and it resets itself, based on how the engine runs. (But put some high-octane gas and fuel injector cleaner and see if that helps, first.)

Good luck!

well what you want to do is solve teh stalling, not the restarting of the motor, cranking after the engiens just been on tends to take a tad longer then usual, with no auto choke and fuel already being in the cylinders flooding n stuch but yeah, fix hte stalling first :P

is the engine at working temp? i dunno cant help you with this one, try asking a local workshop, they wont charge for that ^^

Maybe its the fuel filter like Boo said, I haven't replaced that. I got spark plugs since they're cheap anyway so I figured it can't hurt to do. I guess if that doesn't solve it, I'll try the fuel filter. The air filter I did about a month ago so that should be fine.

Had the same problem

My 95 4 cyl wagon was doing the same thing. I actually got on here to respond to an old post about fixing it.

The car would stall once it WARMED up... at a light or just when taking foot off gas to make a turn. I had the fuel & air filters changed and a tune up but it still kept doing it and my mechanic wasn't sure what was going on.
Somebody here suggested the Engine Coollant Sensor was bad.
Went to AUTOZONE and picked one up for $29. Took about 10 minutes to put it in.
I think that did it. No more stalls. Good luck.
