yeah i think that's true on most newer cars, but i would still get it changed every 3k, but that's just me....and if i had just gotten a new car then i would begin using a full synthetic oil, you should really think about that!

Are the newer comes coming with synthetic from the factory? If you have synthetic, gotta stick with it. If not, I would go with synthetic. Stick with a Toyota filter if you can. Mobil 1, K&N and Purolator Pure One are good filters.

My Toyota calls for changes ~3750 miles. But I don't go that high. I've gone 3200 without changing but I figure that it's cheap insurance and I use my car for work and school so it sees a lot of miles.

I change mine every 3k. I love Mobil 1 Syn and have always used K&N filters. Sometimes I maybe over due on the change, depending on what the oil looks like. Just remember to ALWAYS change your oil filter after and oil change.

Cool

Toyota hasn't recommenced changing the oil @ a 3000m interval (it's been 3750 under severe conditions for a long time/5000m normal, or up to 7250m pre '97) for over a decade. If you look through the service manuals, Toyota tends to like 5,000+ miles. If you're not into performance or city driving.

Swap to a good synthetic, drive 5,000 miles with it under any condition. Then send a sample to someplace that does oil analysis. They'll let you know about the condition of your engine, and about how long the oil should last before you need to change it.

3K is a big waste of money... There should be 0 reason for a synthetic oil to be broken down in 3000 miles. Especially considering many won't discolor much at all in a clean engine @ 7500 miles.

5000 miles is when you get a new oil change. On the new Toyota Camrys, the "Maint. Req" Light will come out. It's a new feature tha tells the owner when to change the oil. It's only on when you need a new oil change. Don't trust me? Read it in your manual. It saids so right there.

I'm planning to stock my garage full of Toyota Genuine Oil Filters whenever I go to my mechanic for a oil change. He uses Shell or Mobil 1, so I don't really care.

that's not true, you can interchange between qualities of oils back and forth, over and over and nothin will be hurt, it's when you change brands of oils is when it's not good for the engine, cause different companies use different additives and ingredients in their oils, so as long as you stick with the some kind of oil then your good...someone correct me if im wrong..and perferably someone who really knows what they are talking about

Wait untill your engine completely breaks in before you use synthetic, or do new engines even have a break in period anymore. But I also agree with synthetic. I recently read of someone at a dealership that would drain synthetic oil from cars then turn around and use them in his cars because the oil tested 70-80 percent life after 3k miles already.

Cool

^ engine is broken in with-in 50 miles of leaving a dealer... If they didn't drive it around when they got it.

Swap to synthetic whenever you want.

I saw a documentary somewhere that the 3,000 mile per oil change was just a hoax in the past that caught on with the public. Don't know if anybody else saw that or not. Anyways, my dealership told me to get oil changes every 5k so I'll just go with what they say.
