Cruise control modification

has anyone ever swapped the gen3 cruise control actuator out for a gen4+? According to the factory wiring manuals, there is a slight difference (other than the connectors being sligtly different). I can take care of the electrical difference...I think.

I am trying to make as much space as possible to make some intercooler piping. So I am getting one of those 1/2 size Optima yellow tops and want to swap the big-ass gen3 cruise control actuator out for a gen4...that's much smaller.

And don't tell me to get rid of the cruise control. That is not what I am asking here.

Just want to know if anyone has ever done anything like this...or used an actuator from another car/gen to free up some space.

Thanks,
Steve

Cool

Whoa good question. I haven't!!!!

But it *is* easy to relocate the gen3 CC box to the back of the bay. Just don't bind the cables when doing so. (You cut the metal bracket support off and just mount the metal plate everything fits on to the firewall by the brake booster)

You could also get someone in a LHD camry to send you a the entire throttle setup. Their throttle cable crosses over the top of the engine to infront of the passanger fender well, where the CC box is, which sends it back across the engine to the throttle.

I did have a picture... I was explaining it to someone from Australia, but I don't have it anymore, and don't have the picture (ironically this was like... a week ago hahahaha)
You would also need their little throttle cable attachment for the throttle body. B/Cit's different(obviously) or just buy a used TB from there also...

After posting, I went back out to the car and thought some more...and some more. I thought about relocating the CC, but didn't think there was enough room. You're saying to put it against the firewall near the brake booster? I suppose if I moved my fuel press regulator, it may fit. You mean near the MAP sensor, right?

When you said LHD Camry, I assume you meant RHD since we all have LHD here in the states. With the RHD, the CC is on the other side of the engine bay? Are you saying if I had that then I could relocate the CC to the passenger side? Do they also have the battery over there...or is there a separate mount to hold the cruise control?

I appreciate the idea, but I am trying to keep this thread focused on the cruise control actuator.
