engine/timing belt update

i just got off the phone with my mechanic and he said that despite the fact that they did change the belt they still cant figure out why it still shakes while idle. he also said that it has died a few times as well. he did mention that it may be the distributor, but i wont have any more information until later today. does any one think that it can something else. i noticed that some people have posted about the same issue and it turned out to be the egr valve or the ect sensor. can this also be the same problem that i am having? i have a 93, 4 cylinder, automatic transmission camry le with 166,000 miles on it. my problem is that it shake while idle sometimes causing the car to die. the car starts w/ no problems and runs fine except when i come to a stop at a light. please post some more info if possible thanx.

as well as the distributor, it could be plugs or wires, if it's misfiring. Some vibration on the 5SFE is normal, but knocking off isn't. You also might want to check the injectors to make sure they aren't clogged or screwed up in any way. If all else fails, have them (or yourself) perform a compression test.

Cool

^ they replaced plugs and wires.

If it's still shaking at idle, but the performance is better than the last post, have them clean out the idle air control valve.

Also let them check the ignition timing. That will let you know if the distributor has somehow been set incorrectly, or if they aligned the cams/crank incorrectly (which isn't exactly hard to do... even for a mechanic)

You may need to just run sea foam, is the IACV working?, do you get high idle when the car is started cold? At least have him inspect the distributor, even your wires if its real bad or even original replace it. The IACV is part of the system that is supposed to adjust your idle to keep the car from killing. This is a difficult problem to troubleshoot, and yes even low compression on a cylinder can cause the car to run bad.
