having trouble figuring out how to get rid of the shift know in my 96 camry LE.. got all the screws off but the knob won't lift off.. seems like the O/D button and the wire attached to it is still connected. I could not take out the little compartment with the o/d button to disconnect the wire. how do i do this?... i want a C/F knob soo bad.

I'm not sure if the knob setup is similar to the one on the Gen4, but in case it is...

You need to pull off the gear indicator cover and reach down to disconnect the OD harness - it's to the right and forward of the shifter assembly, near where the passenger's left foot would be. If you're too lazy to do that, you can also cut the wires leading to the OD button and solder them to an aftermarket switch or your new shift knob.

You have to get a switch and simply connect the two wires to it. Like this....
