my effin' alternator

my alt and batt are running good now (since they are new), but when i went to autozone to get it tested, the guy pointed out that the alternator was chipped. a few of the spokes that cover the "brain" of the alternator broke off and disappeared. i have no idea how/where/when this happened, because i know i would have noticed it if it was broken when i installed it.

anyway. i doubt theres a chance ill get a free replacement, even though i sure as hell didnt break the goddam thing. but are there any risks with running my alternator the way it is right now?

im also getting these wierd cricket noises on cold and initial start-ups. SOMETIMES it goes away once the engine is warm. its kind of coming from the same area as the alternator. what could this be? i supposedly had that taken care of when i replaced my belts... but its still there. could it also be related to the fact that i really need a tune up.

thx guys

Usually alternators come with a lifetime warranty when you buy them from autozone, kragen, etc. Do you have any pics of the damage you're talking about? If it's to the external casing I wouldn't worry about it.

As long as the broken parts didn't go inside your fine. You probably didn't even do it. Since it's rebuilt it pobably happened before you even got it. They just put new guts in them, test them (probably like every 100th one) and ship them back out. Sure you didn't install it with the damage and just now noticed.
