i got a 92 camry LE auto, and was wondering how long is the intervial for the the transmission fluid change. i bought the car 2 years ago and has put about 12k on it so far.
oh and what compression psi should the cylinders get? a buddy of mines is comin to town and just might as well ask him to bring the tester. i got the 92 LE, 4 cylinder. oh and im pretty much new to this site and thanks for the help
Recommended flush, that's all you can do anyway, every 12,000 miles, only takes 2 Quarts of Dexron III, cheap, but helps the Tranny. Loosen 10 mm Hex, drain and re-fill. If you fancy it, you can re-freshen every 6,000 miles. Walmart sells Dexron III for $1.27/Quart.
with compression just make sure that all cylinders are pretty close to each other.

Transmission oil changes depends alot on the type of driving you do. If you do alot of towing or city driving, it creates alot of wear on the tranny gears. For me, I don't do any towing and have no problem changing the transmission oil after 100K, that's right 100K. I used to evaluate transmission oil samples for GM as an engineering intern. I looked at many samples of transmission oil after 100K and they do not look too bad. To each their own in terms of how often you want to change it. For the most part, it is not necessary.
I had the car for like 80K before I changed my tranny fluid. I have no idea if the previous owners changed it before me. If they didn't, the tranny fluid went 150K from the factory.
I also changed the filter and it only took me a couple of hours.
Like it was said above, I don't do any towing so I figured that I could get away with a longer interval.
according to toyota every 30k. after that its up to you. as other people have mentioned its really depends on the driving you do. some people go 40 or 50k between but i would keep a close eye on the condition rather than mileage. if the fluid looks good and doesnt smell burnt at 30k then you could probably go another 10k or so but since the cost ist really that high it would be good preventative maintenance.
i got over 200,000kms (not miles) on the current tranny oil... im scared to change it now haha :P

Hello:I do not want to hijack anyones post, but i was curious if my 1998 Camry 4 cylinder automatic has a trans filter that should be changed?i bought the car about 6 weeks ago,and I was told it has never had any service done to the trans and it has 100,000 miles on it.It shifts fine, but I want to do what ever is needed to make it last another 100.000 miles.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards...Chuck
