auto tranny handle 3sge?

i have a gen 2 automatic with the 3sfe. i am contemplating the 3sge swap. my question is would my tranny be able to cope with the gen 1, gen 2, or gen 3 3sge? if so which one?

125 front wheel horsepower with major retard issues between 4500-5200RPM -
OD switched off, even when not in 3rd results in major power loss/rpm drop.

Run till it die before you swap. Asa long as you don't try to manual it all day long it souhld last a while. Only thing is you can't get all the power to the wheel due to the torque convertor.

do you mean run my current motor till it dies? haha i'd be waiting a loooooooong time for that! my motors only done 165,000km (103,000miles). pretty good for a 1991. thanks for the help guys.

Celica GTS's with the 3SGE and an Auto tranny used the same transmission as the 3SFE equiped camrys and celicas, so you should be fine.

I thought the 3s-ge/3s-gte never came in a automatic ??? There was never an ecu to control an automatic

Gen4 celica GT-S's had an autotranny option. They used the same A140 tranny as the camry and celica ST's and GT's and the same tranny computer too.

no i dont have a power button. i dont believe the gen2s came with one. (as far as i know anyway).

if you dont have a power-econo button on your center console, you have a mech. shift trans, you can then use a 5 speed ecu, it wont know the difference
