Acceleration Problem after 15-20 minutes of driving

Hey guys, I've tried searching for a similar problem in the threads but haven't come across anything still. This just began 2 weeks ago. After driving my 89 camry (manual) for about 15-20 minutes, the engine begins to mildly studder while stepping on the accelerator pedal approximately above 50%. The engine has around 160K miles on it, so I know I'm bound to run into problems now. Other than this, the car runs like a champ. There is an obvious loss of power, but it will run fine if not accelerating hard. Tried running some fuel injector cleaner, but didn't do anything, along with a higher octane. I'm thinking of swapping out the spark plugs (haven't gotten around to checking them yet), along with maybe changing out the fuel filter. This happens everytime I drive, so I have to be really easy on the car.

Any ideas of I may be experiencing. All help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

I am having the same problem; 94 camry xle 4, 75,000miles. Slow oil drips, so I had seals changed at Oak Lawn Toyota. $1000. Driving home, car died while driving. They told me $200 for battery. (battery was not old, so I did not believe it, but they insisted, so they towed and gave me new battery. Driving home, it died again, while accelerating. More $$ for towing and they told me I have some gas in the oil, metal shavings, and now a leak in rear seal which they had replaced a year earlier (the $1000 was for all the OTHER seals). Like you said, I can drive the car, and if I accelerate steady (keeping RPM under 5000), it is fine to drive. If I go over 5000 RPM while driving, it strains like there is no power, and engine dies unless I back off the accelerator quickly. OLT says I need to get a new engine (which they claim is about $3000). I repeat '94 camry, 75,000 miles (I live 2 miles from my office.) Any assistance is greatly appreciated, I just got a new house/mortgage, kids tuition starting up, and sunk $1500 into car only to be told it needs new engine. Thanks

One possbile cause is fuel filter. It's flow starts to decrease as it gets clogged over the years. There will be sufficient flow to meet low demand such as when you idle or run at a partial steady throttle. When you accelerate, there is simply not enough fuel to meet that huge demand.

Another possible cause is insufficient fuel atomization. Fuel needs to be atomized (in a fine mist) when it is injected into the combustion chamber. If it is just "hosed" into it, it is not going to burn efficiently.

Run a tank or 2 of fuel injector cleaner. Change the oil afterwards tho. as it also dilutes your oil.
