Yes they can be a bitch. The one section of HP hose in the middle isn't too bad. I recommend taking out the hard line that runs to the passenger side on the firewall. Take it to a hose shop.
On mine, they reflared the hard line, put on an aftermarket fitting, made a new hose, and put another fitting on the other side for about $50. Waaaay cheaper than a new line from the factory, and will last longer.
well you do have to get under the car. They're really not that hard, but it will help to use the right tools. Most of my tools from work are Craftsmen so for those hoses I used a couple of open ended wrenches. The top will need a 10mm to get to the brackets. The top fitting is actually setup so it can be taken out easier.
