JL Audio Introducing Next Generation W3s

July 10, 2002 -- Miramar, Fla. -- Already garnering numerous industry awards for design and engineering, the introduction of the next generation of W3s, to be known as W3v2, signifies the arrival of some significant upgrades to this already popular subwoofer line.

Here's a list of changes made to the next generation W3:

1) The 10W3v2 and 12W3v2 feature JL Audio's patented "Elevated Frame" cooling technology. This design feature, borrowed straight from the W7s and W6v2s, significantly enhances thermal power handling by allowing air to flow directly across the top-plate and onto the voice coil windings. This cooling advantage boosts the power handling rating 20% over the original 10W3 and 12W3 designs (300 Watts vs. 250 Watts continuous power).

2) An all new dished cone/dust cap design gives the W3v2 subwoofers a distinct, updated look that ties in with the look established in JL Audio's premium W6v2 and W7 subwoofers.

3) On the frame of the W3v2s, a new metallic silver powder coat finish replaces the black finish seen on the previous W3s, while new silver back-plate decals complement the new color scheme.

4) A flexible, rubber gasket on the mounting flange provides excellent woofer-to-box sealing and also incorporates a feature that accepts grille mesh inserts directly (without the need for frames or additional baffle real estate (these grille inserts are sold separately).

Company CEO and chief engineer, Lucio Proni said: "The W3s have proven themselves in the field as great-sounding, highly reliable subwoofers that are affordable to most car audio enthusiasts. Rather than messing with the proven, basic formula of the W3s, the "v2" update was targeted at improving reliability through our patented cooling systems, creating a fresh, new look and enhancing user-friendliness."

ME SOOOO HAPPY! That's awsome. Was curious when the W3 was going to get revamped. That will definately solve the dust cap problem...and I like that the price is about the same. Maybe I will somehow "blow" my pair when the new style comes out...he he. Thanks for keeping me in mind!
