Yesterday I had a couple hours to kill so I decided to go and drive an Altima 2.5S. So we are out driving and I mention that the camry is also on my list. The salesman says "well, let's go over to toyota." Turns out the dealships are in the "same family". So we drive over there and I locate the salesman who sold my wife's RAV4 a year ago. We locate the camry I had seen on their website (05 SE) and head out.
It was a very strange experience driving around with two different competing salesman. Made for great conversation! Well, after driving both and asking a ton of questions, I decided that it was no contest. The only thing I liked about the Altima is that it felt a little more comfortable. After driving both of them we parked side by side and gave them the once over. We popped the trunks the Nissan guy poked around explaining things, "here's a little storage area etc, etc.......here's the doughnut spare." I look over at the Toyota guy and he raises his eyebrows and says "full size here". I laughed out loud.
The camry just delivered the KO blow.
So I put $500 down on the SE to hold it. Here is the deal I'm getting:
2005 Lunar Mist SE 4cyl 5sp autol with upgrades of spoiler, alloys, JBL premium stereo
$19438 which includes $700 rebate
$2101.47 with tax and plates
minus initial $500 deposit and $250 return buyer coupon>>>>>$20351.47
I was also told that Toyota would match my credit union rate of 3.74 for 60 mos.
So should I sign off on this? From what I've seen this seems to be a pretty good deal.
You and I think alike about these two cars. The Altima was 'eh' but the Camry was just more refined and offered more. I know I could have had the Altima for less money, but it just wasn't worth it.
I also had a great experience with my 1995 camry, and a poor experience once with a Nissan Pathfinder. That did make a difference in my decision.

I got same car for $19278 here in VA. My taxes, tags, & title were a bit less, but my deal was less than $200 better. I would say you got a good deal there, maybe beat them up another $100 if you feel like it
I was offered 2.9% for 54 months (odd number of months I know) but my credit rating is so high you wouldn't believe me if I told you
So have you heard that annoying seat belt buzzer yet?
(see another thread in this forum for details)

Oh my god...
I hate that thing.
Thank god on my dad's 03 camry, there is only a light but on his 05 rolla....It will beep everytime. I'm like taking a drink and just about to put on my seatbelt when it goes BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.
The invoice is about $20,400 from what you described - including the Convenience Package B which is required for the JBL sound. You are about $1,000 back of invoice (including the rebate.) That's a pretty good deal you got there.
You can grind for a couple hundred perhaps. But life's too short. Since they are cool in helping you decide between the Nissan and the Toyota, I think they deserve to earn your business.
Make sure you line up a loan with the credit union. The dealer may try to make their money back on the loan.
I test drove the Altima 3.5 SE, and although the engine was the best I've ever seen, the car itself wasn't anything special. The Camry LE was nice but for some reason seemed plain. The Camry SE sounds much better w/ the spoiler and alloys.
Did you test drive an Accord? My relative just bought an '04 Accord and I prefer it over the Camry now...he he, though a Camry SE sounds nice . I drove the car yesterday and although it's a I4, coupled with the 5spd auto it felt close to the V6 in my car. Even the new I4 Camrys matched with the 5spd auto feel great. In the previous generations of Camrys I think the V6 was more necessary but not anymore.
Don't forget to post some pictures when you get the car!
PS: Why not go with your credit union for the loan anyway? Unless the dealer can *beat* your credit union, I think you should still go to the credit union.

Folks, just a reminder. Toyota (just as most other manufacturers) offers an additional Recent Graduate acsh-back rebate of $400. To take advantage of that, you have to use Toyota's financing. But there is no pre-payment penalty, so you can pay it off by refinancing with your credit union after making the first payment. Their rates aren't too bad. I'm offered 4.55% for 60 months, while my credit union offers 4.40%.
The best quote I got for a 2005 Camry V6 LE, with options DJ ($290 JBL stereo upgrade w/ 8 speakers) & CF ($185 Floor mats), is $20,700 base price including destination charges. So with the $700 cash back & $400 recent grad rebate, my out the door price comes to about $21,350, in Chicagoland. Has anyone found a better deal?
