Electronic AC/Heater Control Problem

My electronic A/C-Heater Controls have a problem.
The FAN will only work on M2 or HI setting. LO and M1 setting don't do anything.
I have got a new unit installed which is from a Gen 2.5, looks alot better, but still has this same problem.
What other circuitry apart from the unit controls the fan blower speed?

Also..what are the bulbs types for the illumination and how to I access the indicator lights for the buttons? I want to put blue LED lighting in it, and blue lights in the buttons would look cool!

Thanks.

You have a broken "blower motor resistor". It's usually located in the blower motor housing area itself as it is cooled by the blower itself. Locate the blower under the dash on the passenger's side. Follow the wiring and you will see an electrical connector going to it on or near the blower motor housing. Remove the connector and then remove the 1 or 2 screws that hold the resistor in place. It should now come right out. When you have it out, the back side will have what appear to be 4 pen springs. 2 of them will be broken or burned. This is a dealer only part that should run about $40-$50. Installation is just the reverse of removal. This is an easy DIY repair.

Done. Fixed the problem with that blower resistor. Thanks Mike.
Bit of an expensive part, but oh well.

What's the current dealer price for the new resistor? I hope you did this yourself.

I bought it from the dealer and installed it myself...haha..it is so easy to get to...youd be gettn ripped off if someone else did it!. THe price of the resistor was AUD$103. Which was a bit more expensive than i wouldve liked...but my other was had it..when i took it out, the whole backside was dirty and rusted and 2 springs were snapped and skewed...so..yeah, nice to have a working blower fan again!

Most dealers in my area (Chicago) charge an hour to an hour and a half minimum labor. The labor rate around here is $95/hour US. That's $95 minimum to take that resistor out and put it back in. That's why I do everything I can myself.

I had the same problem in my old maxima...if you wanna be really cheap, I took out the resistor pack and then soldered in some new resistors...worked fine!

Silver Streak,

Where did you get the resistors to solder in? Did they look like the pen spring ones Toyota uses? I stopped in at a Radio Shack and they didn't have anything that looked like the type of resistors Toyota uses in there block of resistors for the blower motor.

Thanks.

Use ceramic wirewound resistors.
