5 speed conversion?

Did third generation Camry wagons come with a 5 speed? What would it take to convert an auto to a 5 speed? Has anyone done it? How hard was it?

Yes it did come in a 5 speed, SE and DX were the packages for those. V6 SE's are hard to find. I know I have one. Converting???....waste of $, better move to find a gen 3 5 speed and go from there

Toysrme - Thanks for your insightful and well thought out response, please feel free to eat a dick.

Knailgun - I have been looking for a 5 speed third gen V6 wagon for about a year and heve never seen one advertized. I've seen lots of 5 speed sedans but I don't want a sedan.

Dude...your looking for a wagon....kudos to you, I haven't even contemplated that one. Gotta go back to the drawing board. As far as the sedans....the coupes are the ones to get (I have a JDM SE V6 5 speed...but would kill for the coupe). Now that you've peaked my interest..I'll be on the lookout for you too. I am impressed though...that power plant and delivery in a wagon....big time sleeper with a "WTF" rsponse from civics...love it

If you can't find a 1992-93 V6 SE, since they are very rare, only two years made that came with the 5-speed, go find a 1995-1996 DX coupe, since the 95 and 96 have a cleaner back end and all of the body moldings are color keyed. I have a 1996 DX Coupe w/ 5-speed and since the coupe is a tiny bit shorter and lighter compared to the sedan, the 2.2 I4 has a good amount of power (and with any 5-speed there is no torque converter that eats up HP)

Where in Canada are you from?

Basically you need the tranny, probably axles, shifter cables, shifter assembly, brake pedal, clutch pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder, clutch lines, a little wiring, and likely the 5-speed ECU.

If you're close to VT and need a hand, just let me know.

You ever heard the expression "You are what you eat"?

JDL - I'm in British Columbia. By the sound of it I should keep my eyes open for a wrecked donor car.
