Do I need a valve adjustment?

Guys,

I've got a '96 camry with the 5sfe (4 cylinder) and 109,000 miles. I just changed the timing belt a few weeks ago, along with the tensioner spring, cam and crank seals. While I had the valve cover off, I decided to check the valve clearances (though I've heard several say that these cars supposedly rarely need adjustment). In any event, the intake valves were in spec, but the exhaust valves were out of spec and too tight. By out of spec, I'm talking about approx .002 off (again, too tight).

My question: obviously I'm out of spec, but as a practical matter, do I need to be concerned with getting these adjusted asap? In other words, is .002 that much out of spec? I'm getting more noise from the valve cover area than I think is normal (i.e. like rattling/clicking) and suspect this may be the culprit, but I'm uncertain. any thoughts? thanks.

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it.

dont worry about it, the s motors are known for loose fitting pistons that will bang around when cold, when i was at toyota, a tsb came out on the 3sge for that

I would have adjusted them right there and then if I had gone to the trouble of checking them (which requires valve cover off and lining up TDC.)

Now that it is closed up, I wouldn't worry about it. Particularily since it is tight. If at all as they wear out, they will then fall into spec instead of farther and farther away from it.
