My dad's check engine light popped on right at 60k miles. Is this a normal thing reminding you to get it serviced? I wouldn't think so but its weird that it happend right at 60k. He's got a gen 4. Anyone know??
mine is gen4 v6, the light came out when i hit 9K. Got code checked in AutoZone was caused by Oxygen Sensor. Are the spark plugs really supposed to be changed at 60k?? is that also may cause the light comes out?
according to my manual, it says 90K and went to the toyota dealer and they told me to change it at 90k. mine is a gen4.5 though. check ur manual or maybe somebody here would like to take a go at it. i know gen 3 is 60k cos i have a gen 3 also.

Doesn't the CEL mean that there is something wrong with the car, not just regular maintaince??? I thought CEL had to be "de-coded" to figure out the problem, and then the problem had to be fixed??? Could be wrong, this is just what my knowledge of CEL's were.

Sometimes they turn on at a set mileage because normally you have to replace certain sensor after X amount of miles.
the mil light (malfunction indicator light aka check engine light) is set up so it only comes on if a component that effects emissions had a malfunction, toyota does not have it set up so it automaticly goes on at a set mileage (some times it may seem like it) i work as a toyota tech and most of the time if it goes on at the same time as a major service has been done it is because either the evap purge line is unpluged from the air box of some other stupid thing has been disconnected.
