well my car died at a red light today, i was like woah, toyrollas aren't supposed to just die like that. and it wouldn't start, i would turn the key, it and the tachometer would hit 0 and quit. got it towed to a mechanic, they told me like the motor mount was busted and somehow, affected the airflow. $ 413 dollars, i was like holy fucking shit. then they told me cv boot was kaput and also needed tranny flush, and also new serpentine belts. holy fucking shit. that is really gonna cost me an arm and a leg. Sucks, and thus ends my rant.
But i am wondering how the motor mount can affect the airflow, and also is $413 a reasonable price cuz i am looking online motor mounts don't cost that much. this might be a good excuse to get a new car. **cough SCIONTC cough**
no, $413 is just for the 2 mounts alone, everything else is seperate, my only problem know is if i take it to another shop, i gotta pay this shop for finding out the problem and towing to the next shop. so 413 is not reasonable right, cuz i am looking at haynes right and looking online at motor mounts. it is a lotta labor for that job.
When they stop like that, usually its the timing belt. What's the mileage?
Motor mounts, I doubt you need to do them, and as to a relationship to air flow ... no way.
CV boot, if it's damaged, replace it ASAP. If the joint is okay, clean and regrease it. A snap ring hold the axle into the joint and it's best to pop out the axle to clean it properly.

By the way, I think there are four mounts. Front center, between the rad and the motor, its easy to change. Rear center, between the firewall and the motor, it's harder to get at. Transmission, by the drivers fender, it's tough to change. The dogbone, by the passenger strut tower, this is easy to change. I only had to change the dogbone and the front, but at very high mileage ... like 400,000 km.

If you dont trust them, go there and have them show your what the problem is. You never know about those crazy carbondale techs. I would think the motor mounts would have to be pretty much completely gone to tilt the engine enough to cut off the air flow. Ive worked on plenty of camrys with over 200K miles on them that still had the original motor mounts.
He's shady...sounds to me like a belt or possible electric probs....but a CV...yeah right. Car will drive with a bad CV...just not for too long. Air fuel sensor...maybe. But this guy is hosing you.....get a 2nd opionion.
I like how the mechanic cited problems everything but anything directly engine related (which sounds like the problem). Get the car fixed b4 you put in for a new Tc, you'd probably get more for the car (even after factoring in repair)

Sold it and regretting it
I went to a mechanic once to get my brakes changed, after like 15-20mins the guy came out and was like...."yea....umm...your brakes are fine....but your CV boots are broken, and he starts sayin that my car should be all screwed up when steering. It was fine before i got there, and when i left, it felt weird...well anyway, my brakes were bad, and i think they busted the CV. I ended up getting everything fixed like 2 months later when i slid of the road, bounced over a curb and hit a tree. (gee....how much fun was that!) My grandpa had a similar problem with a Mazda that he took the dealership.
Ummm......the motor mount broke on my old '92 Cam at 60k miles......sure as hell kept running fine! Shop is a fraud!
That is why I like my mechanic! I went to him last month and told him I need 2 new axels, calls me back the next day after looking at it and flat out tells me I only need 1!!!! He is expensive, but stands by his work and is HONEST! Hard to find people like that......

I had the exact same thing. I was at a read light and my car just died. Had it towed to a local shop and found out that the timing belt had snapped. Which meant that the water pump also had to be replaced.
Later, I had a problem with my motor mount as well; the front one to be exact. Didn't affect the engine's performance at all but it did cause other problems. Since the mount was busted the engine would twist under throttle. The twisting busted the the CV joint. Fortunately a ripped CV boot warranted the replacement of the CV joint already, and the shop (Monro) replaced it under warranty.
If the shop is saying your mount is busted, there's an easy way to check (at least for the front. I don't know about the back). Pop the hood and have a friend put the car IN gear and rev the engine. If the engine twists isntead of just pitching forward then you should get the replaced ASAP. Make sure the car is in gear. If it isn't, then it will look like nothing's wrong. That's how they missed it the first time.
