Questions on changing valve cover seal and others?

Hi,

When you change the valve cover gasket, you suppose to apply some
RTV sealant to the cylinder head mounts. My questions:

1. Do you need to wait until the RTV sealant to dry a bit before putting
the valve cover, or you must not wait before putting back the cover?

2. Haynes manual mentioned that, for some models of cars, if you disconnect
the battery for too long, the air bag system needs dealers' reset in order
to refunction. Do you have such experience?

Thanks a lot.

I've also got a 96 cam with the 4 cylinder.

I re-installed the valve cover within a few minutes of putting down a bead of RTV sealant. so far, I've not noticed any leaks.

I've had my battery disconected for weeks at a time and never had the airbag light come on...

Wink Thanks, I think we should not wait until

it is dry since we do not want the RTV sealant forms a bump through the
gascket path.

So, I think you did correctly.

I replaced my valve cover gaskets with brand new ones from Toyota. I cleaned the surfaces completely and didnt use RTV sealant. Works perfectly! A new gasket..if the surfaces a clean and straight, should seal without it. I only need to add some RTV to my cam cap/seal which is slightly weepy.
