hello fellow toyo owners!

Im new here and so far im enjoying reading some of the posts here. I have a 96 Camry 4 cyl and I just replaced the stock tires with 16" tires with Motegi wheels. Now I noticed the ugly rusted rear drum brake doesnt match with my new shiny wheels. I have seen some cars with painted drum brakes. Anyone here done this thing before... any suggestions on what type of paint to use? and also any on how?

thank,
Boyet

ps. now if i can only figure out how to attach a picture, i would love to show my car!

Take off the drum, sand all the rust off, as much as you can, wash it off, prime it with metal primer, then use any heat resistant paint. Do a bunch of coats. I didnt use heat resistant paint, and its fine, but i think it will start to wear off soon.

I used VHT(Very High Temperature Paint) on mine after I sanded them down as much as I could. However, I didn't use primer. I cured them in the over for a couple of hours (as recomend by directions on paint). They have been painted for about 2 months and it has started comming off and the rust is showing through. Maybe I will have to try with primer.

Okay, I've got a stupid Q.

This primer you're all talking about, is it high temp as well? If not, that wouldn't make sense. The paint sticks to the primer, but if the primer itself can't withstand the temps it'll just peel off taking the paint along with it. Kinda like putting the peanut butter on the bread first then the jelly, not the other way around. Get what I'm trying say :-?

I'm not sure which Crap Tire you went to but try a lager one (ie. Markham/Lawrence, Warden/Eglington) The paint should be in the same aisle. It's marked as "Manifold Paint" or "Engine Enamel" The colour choices are limited though. Red, Turquois, Gold, Silver and Black.
As for hi-temp primer, I don't think it exists. I was just asking out of curiousity. Just prep the parts that you are gonna paint as thoroughly as possible and just paint the sh1t with or without primer.

I paint mines the lazy way. Sand and clean off the rust, tape off and cover everything and spray w/ high temp paint. I don't take off mine, also I used a rust stop type of paint once and it never did crack or come off.

I used one of those duplicolor paint kits- its not necessary but mom needed to get me a gift for something, so thats what I got. Its held up alright so far, a few months.
