I just bought IS300 rims + tires for my camry... the kid i bought them from said he might be concerned about the tires that are on the rims because the weight of his car (is300) is less than a camry. The tires that are on the rims are the potenza re040's. Specifications can be viewed here:
http://www.potenza.com/dpp/index.asp
The tires are about 2 months old, and he said with the amount of driving i do, i should always check tire pressure (duh), and maybe even consider getting fatter tires.
Any thoughts >> ???
Oh by the way, I paid $675 USD for 4 rims + tires + shipping from Cali (i live in MA).
The 2001 potenza's re040's were the ones that were recalled... and were replaced by the potenza re040's the NEWER ones... main difference being a 2 ply sidewall (which is actually written on the tire)
Next time you guys wanna talk smack, do some research b4 you do it, else you look like buttplugs :P
This previous post goes directly to "deep"  , others that actually tried to help me out, thanks and i appreciate it...
I could flame you and make you cry like the silly bitch you are, but I won't. In your question you asked whether or not it was safe to drive on the same tires that the Lexus IS300 uses even though there is a weight difference between your Camry and the IS. Also you asked if you should consider wider rubber.
What I anwered was that the kid who was worried about it didn't know what he talking about. The 400 or whatever lbs difference between your car and his is not a safety issue on a set of 215/45ZR17 rubber. Going any wider than that will only increase the rotational mass and hinder performance, theres no point in your application to go any bigger. As for my comment, believe it or not, it is a better answer than you got from anyone else, as it answers the question you posed instead of going off on a tangent.
Hmm... maybe I will flame you. You're fuckin idiot, don't ever tell me I'm talking smack if you don't know wtf you're talking about, if I'm wrong I'll be the one to admit it. On top of that, you don't know me, so how the fuck can you make a call on what I do and do not know? You're ignorant, I don't like you, fuck off and die. Stupid bitch.
Your answer here is exactly what i was looking for. However, instead of you saying:
"That kid is an idiot, punch him in the neck."
you should have simply said:
"The 400 or whatever lbs difference between your car and his is not a safety issue on a set of 215/45ZR17 rubber. Going any wider than that will only increase the rotational mass and hinder performance, theres no point in your application to go any bigger."
And yes, my comment did go off on the tangent of the recall, because i guess everyone decided to go that route....
And for your last paragraph, a waste of your time..... definitely not appreciated and or needed on the forum.... I may be stupid when i asked these questions, but in my mind im still a newbie to "hooking up" cars...
Im stoked that you know the world about cars and toyotas, which for one is great, and two its exactly why i joined the forum, to gain knowledge about my camry.. but you're attitude in responding is again, definitely not appreciated... flame me all you want
